Ice Ice Edwards

Edwards the eskimo

At 81LTD the bartenders carve their own blocks of ice to place in straight up drinks such as the Lucky Strike on the menu, an old fashioned style drink.

Filling a large water tight container with water, then placing it in a dump freezer, the block then comes out huge and is whittled down and lovingly separated smaller and smaller, quite literally carved into the perfect shape for each glass. It looks like a lot of fuss over nothing but I think it's worth it.

Here is Chris's effort:

Dogging in Hampstead - Dach & Son's

Dach & Sons New York style eatery

Hot dogs - the new micro trend.

So we took a trip to London, Hampstead to be precise. A rare occasion for myself but John, my manager and accomplice is a seasoned visitor.
Obviously not actual dogging, Hot dogs silly !
From the team behind the successful Purl and Worship street Whistling shop, Fluid movement have tried hand at their first venture to serve food. Delicious premium gourmet burgers and sliders (baby burgers, veggie included) and of course four kinds of hot dog.

The beautiful listed building dates back to the 1800's and they have not let is lose all it's period charm. As you sit and enjoy your food the taste and experience is most definitely accentuated by the surroundings. A stripped back aesthetic with an industrial feel is not for everyone but the balance between tactile 1960's wooden, vintage bar stools against metallic surfaces and strong lighting (including a neon hotdog sign obviously) lends its self well to the minimal custom made feel that personally I love.

Grub.
Dogs and Sliders.
Pooch.
Never make eye contact whilst eating a dog.
Mac and Cheese
Sweet potato chunky chips.

Overall the food was just as expected, very tasty and not at all overpriced for the quality, service and surroundings. John enjoyed his special formula hotdogs however as a very hungry vegetarian I found my Mac and Cheese portion left me wanting more - I am not a rabbit.
After talking to the chaps who where working there that day, I discovered a genuine passion in the science behind the avant-garde cocktails - naturally stemming from the company's background, but it seems this care and attention has gone into both the food (they have their own butcher who works solely for Dach&Son's using locally sourced meats, that's nice isn't it)and the selection of craft beers to the premium whiskey library.

Drinks.
Craft Beers,
Cream Gin - distilled on site.
Shelves cracking under the choice of bourbon and rye.
